The issue of two humble Maya Kids missing for 11 days has captured the attention of Belizeans and the world media like no other story in recent times. A Belizean take on the incidents can be found at Belizean. Most U.S. publications have been publishing one-sided reports attacking the indigenous Maya Nation of Belize. Vincent Rose, owner of the croc farm in question has been skillfully using his connections in the U.S. to smear Belize and put forth his message. But indigenous Belize media such as Belize.com and others have been striving to present the Belize take on this matter. The latest:
While the croc people couple continue to do their best using U.S. media, foreign travel writers and supporters to continue insulting the Belize Mayas, bring down the good name of Belize and pan handle for cash, the search continues for the missing Mayan kids.
Hundreds of villagers from San Marcos walked from the gas station in Punta Gorda this morning to St. Peter Claver Roman Catholic church praying and singing invocations to the Virgin Mary pleading for the return of their kids. They bore placards and symbols of their faith as they walked to church.
Some 500 villagers and supporters then attended a mass officiated by Father Murray and visiting Father Manuel Sam.
In a impassioned plea delivered in his native K'iche', father Sam implored the Belize authorities to take more decisive action to search for the missing kids.
Father Sam said that aerial reconnaissance, helicopters and more boots on the ground should have been deployed from day one.
Father Sam said that while this is a poor family, the government should not make a distinction.
They should be afforded the same attention as any national or resident of Belize irrespective of their class or ethnic background.
He asked rhetorically what would have been the reaction if the kids were from a wealthy family or the kids of those in authority.
The kids have been adopted by God and in his wisdom lies their fate and we must accept that while we continue to hope that they will be
found.
