1. Flew in on Delta. The flight was full to capacity with a student group from the Univ of Wisconsin here for ten days as part of a Global Outreach class requirement. Apparently they will be splitting the time between San Ignacio (Crystal Palace) and San Pedro (Sunbreeze).
2. Out on CC, there are four or five new monstrous buildings that weren't here when I was last here. They all seem out of place to me, but they now exist. A couple or three or four of them are new accommodations business. The most beautiful of all belongs to my son's family, Peachy Zaldivar. It is called Island Magic Beach Resort, gots the new "it" thing -- a lovely pool and poolside bar. Apparently it was just christened within the last few days. Was invited to the bar last night but unable to make it due to my 15-year old daughter spending the weekend with me.
3. Did run into a couple of very close friends -- one in particular from Germany who has been a family friend since King Hatched was a hammer. We meet up with each other all over the globe at different times. She just happens to be on CC right now. Christiana says she never travels to Belize from Germany via the U.S. because the U.S. is ...(at this point she presses her thumb down on the top of the table). I think she was saying that traveling through the U.S. is oppressive. So she says, I should never expect a visit from her as long as I am in Houston. She travels via Cancun.
4. Met a beautiful German man last night who was in tears. Says he and his wife of two years left Germany ten days ago for Belize on a property searching trip. Their stay should have been for thirty days, but one week into the trip (in which they had been on CC the entire time) his wife left him for a Rastaman. (I would love to help him heal his wounds, he he.)
Weather was really hot and still yesterday. It didn't seem like March weather to me. March weather reminds me of breezy days and nights, but it wasn't like that. It was more of a still, hot, humid June day. Brutal. Couldn't stay out in the sun too long.
Hopefully will get to go snorkeling at the reef today if the weather changes a bit. This morning a North breeze blew in. While everybody is covering up with sweatshirts and sweatpants, I am enjoying the reprieve from the heat. Go figure.
That's it for now. More updates later.

Caye Caulker Trip Report 2010 - Wendy Auxillou

Follow Up By Wendy:
On another note, sat at a table at a restaurant last night with a group of people one of which was a baby-teeth twenty-two year old dude from D.C. who says he is with the OAS and here to give a seminar on corruption. I had to laugh. I asked if the PM was there, since he's been giving his ex-wife de facto alimony via those never-ending multi-million dollar legal contracts but apparently the PM was a no-show at the conference. Poor dude is probably fresh out of college and still bright eyed and bushy tailed. It's his first trip OUT OF D.C. ... not even out of the U.S. ...he said. I asked if he was CIA or FBI but he said no.
Caye Caulker looks pretty packed. As far as I can tell it's busy and people are making money. Didn't see any properties at the real estate office listed for less than the prices they were listed for in 2007 when I left. They're still all priced in the same price range, or more.
Was browsing the newspapers just out of curiosity looking for cheap foreclosures and my eye caught the births / marriages section. 52 year old man from Spanish Lookout marrying an 18 year old bride. Yikes!
A almost 50 family member was also asking for advice on how best to divorce his 22 or so year old bride of four years. His wife before this one was 16 when he met her and he waited two years until she was18 to marry her. That marriage lasted about three years. At least he marries them. Rumor is that he found out two months after he married the3 current wife that she was a lesbian and by then it was too late and the entire four year marriage has been a sham.
That's today's update. Heading to the reef this p.m. with my daughter so more updates later.
